The Cyrtodactylus consobrinus, often called Peters' Bent-Toed Gecko, is a cryptic forest dweller. While similar in shape to the Banded Gecko (L7), its pattern is usually more reticulated or netted. The coloration consists of a brown background with an intricate network of lighter tan or cream lines, providing perfect camouflage against tree bark and leaf litter. They possess the signature "bent" toes and large, alert eyes.
Notes Habitat: Like other Cyrtodactylus, they lack adhesive toe pads. They are strictly arboreal/scansorial on rough surfaces. An enclosure with plenty of branches and 3D backgrounds is essential.
Temperament: They are shy and nocturnal. When threatened, they may arch their backs and wave their tails in a defensive posture.
Why Source This Species:
-
Camouflage Specialist: Ideal for "jungle" style terrariums where the goal is to recreate a slice of the rainforest floor.
-
Affordable Exotic: At a lower price point than the pulchellus, they offer the same interesting "bent-toed" behavior for budget-conscious hobbyists.
-
Genetic Diversity: Popular among gecko specialists who are building a collection of distinct Cyrtodactylus species.
