The Green-Eyed Gecko is a massive, impressive arboreal lizard, often rivalling the Tokay Gecko in size. Its defining feature is its stunning, oversized eyes which are a piercing, emerald-green color. The body is heavily built, grey or brownish-green with white spots. Like the Tokay, they are vocal and possess incredibly strong jaws.
Notes Behavior: This is a "display-only" animal for most people. They are notoriously defensive and have a painful bite. However, their sheer size and prehistoric green eyes make them a magnificent showpiece.
Husbandry: Requires a large vertical terrarium with sturdy branches (bamboo is excellent).
Why Source This Species:
-
The "Green Eye" Draw: The vivid green eye color is distinct and highly marketable to photographers and collectors.
-
Tokay Alternative: For keepers who love the size and attitude of a Tokay but want a species that is much rarer in the hobby.
-
Impressive Size: One of the largest gecko species available in Asia, offering a "big lizard" feel in a manageable enclosure size.
