The Amboina Sailfin Dragon is the crown jewel of the Agamid family and one of the most impressive lizards on Earth. This listing is for an ADULT MALE. Adult males possess a massive, fan-like "sail" on the base of their tail, which can stand several inches high. They are prehistoric in appearance, with a crest on the neck, a powerful jaw, and a long, muscular body. H. amboinensis is the largest of the Sailfin species, often displaying colors of dark olive, brown, and sometimes brilliant speckles of yellow or blue depending on the individual.

Notes Husbandry: EXPERT LEVEL. These are large, active, semi-aquatic lizards. They require a massive enclosure (custom-built room or large pond setup) with a deep water section for swimming. They are flighty and prone to nose-rubbing if the cage is too small or transparent.
Diet: They are true omnivores, eating everything from leafy greens and bananas to crickets, fish, and pinky rats.

Why Source This Species:

  • The "Living Dinosaur": An adult male with a full sail is the closest a keeper can get to owning a Dimetrodon or Spinosaurus look-alike.

  • Zoo Quality Specimen: At $350, an adult male is a steal for a display animal of this caliber. Raising a baby to this size takes years of effort.

  • Aquatic Interaction: Their love for water makes them perfect for large, paludarium-style setups with waterfalls and ponds.
